The floor had rusted from the inside out and had several holes rusted through. This
was not visible as the very thick BMW undercoating was undamaged and covered the
rust and holes from the underside. After removing the all of the interior trim the
carpet was removed by cutting the carpet around the center controls. It appears that
to remove the carpet the entire dash would have to be removed. This was more than
I wanted to do so I cut the carpet by the heater ducts. The cuts will be covered by the
trim so I don’t think it will be a problem. After a couple of weeks of cutting, welding,
grinding, caulking, sealing and undercoating I think the cancer is under control.
